May 27th, 2003 4:30pm - 5:30pm, Carry & Conceal Vigil with a Rally

Greetings to all who may be interested ,

You are invited to attend a rally sponsored by the SE MN Alliance of Peacemakers focusing on the concealed carry handgun issue ( background information ). The group will meet at 4:30 at the corner of S. Broadway and Second. Then at 4:45 participants will march to the Rochester Peace Plaza to listen to some speakers.

The goals of the rally are to inform citizens about the new law and to promote nonviolence and efforts to reduce handgun violence.

Sheriff Borchardt has agreed to speak about the implementation of the new law. Chuck Handlon will speak about nonviolence. Other possible speakers would include Alecia Rodeberg - protecting children from handgun violence, Sandra Means city councilwoman, Mayor Brede, Century High School student Marissa Knodel and a representative from the Rochester Chamber of Commerce.

Ways you can help:

1. Attend the rally and encourage others to attend.
2. Publicize the rally by informing any groups you participate in - churches, civic groups, friends etc.
3. Contact Chuck Handlon to offer help in publicity, or set up.
4. Continue to write letters to your legislators and the newspaper.

We all have many feelings about this law and its possible impact. I don't want this rally to be just a bunch of whining about what our _____ legislature has done. Now I want to focus within the context of the law on reducing the number of handguns carried on the streets of Rochester. I would like to see every private premise post a handgun ban so that I can feel comfortable in Rochester.
